Rental volume, and the linen problem

Vacation rental laundry is not household laundry. It is towels and bed linen, in volume, week after week - and towelling sheds far more lint per load than clothing does. A property turning over every weekend through a season can put a year of ordinary household lint through the duct in a few months.

The failure is quiet. Drying takes longer, the machine runs hotter, the power bill rises, and none of that reaches the owner because the person noticing is a guest who leaves on Sunday. For managed properties we would rather be on a schedule than called after a complaint, and it is substantially cheaper that way.

Worth adding: a dryer that cannot exhaust properly is also dumping moisture somewhere. In a tightly built modern home that shows up as condensation on windows in the laundry area, and occasionally as something worse behind the drywall.
